World Mental Health Day 2023!

The World Health Organization (WHO) states "Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community. It is an integral component of health and well-being that underpins our individual and collective abilities to make decisions, building relationships and shape the world we live in."

Our psychological and emotional well-being, our mental health, are as equally important as our physical health as it relates to the quality of life we experience daily. Exercise and proper nutrition are key elements in achieving and maintaining overall well-being. Over the years I have discovered the power and accompanying freedom that both provide!

Exercise provides the following mental health benefits:

- Enhances energy levels;

- Improves memory;

- Relieves anxiety;

- Boosts mood;

- Releases stress;

- Improves focus/concentration;

- Improves sleep quality;

- Positively affects physical health challenges; and

- Boosts outlook on life.

Proper nutrition is a powerhouse for our mental health providing the following benefits:

- Decreases the risk of depression, anxiety, and brain fog;

- Fewer mood swings;

- Improved concentration;

- Boosts energy;

- Improves energy level; and

- Increases overall brain function.

Proper nutrition and daily exercise are but two ways we can impact our mental health. I purposefully am keenly aware of my body. Notice how you feel after exercising. Listen to what your body communicates to you after eating specific foods. Again, the body is a great communicator.
